Russell James Vitale, known professionally as Russ, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He has released thirteen studio albums, eleven of which were self-released, before signing with Columbia Records to release his twelfth album, “There's Really a Wolf” in 2017.

The album was a commercial and critical success, receiving platinum certification from the RIAA and spawning his first Billboard Hot 100 entries, “What They Want” and “Losin Control”. Russ's thirteenth and fourteenth albums, “Zoo” (2018) and “Shake the Snow Globe” (2020), both peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200. The latter spawned his highest-charting single, “Best on Earth” featuring .

Russell James Vitale was born on September 26, 1992, in Secaucus, New Jersey, and grew up in North Carolina and Kentucky before settling in Atlanta, , during his teenage years. His father taught him to play the guitar, and he gradually learned how to play several other instruments. He began writing raps when he was seven years old and started producing beats at the age of 14 with his friend Bugus. Russ recorded his first song when he was 18 and continued making beats and producing in the basement of Colm Dillane's KidSuper.

Russ gained some attention in 2011 after appearing on MTV alongside fellow rapper Bugus, but it was his decision to release a song every week on SoundCloud for almost three years that finally brought him to the forefront. Two of these , “What They Want” and “Losin Control,” eventually charted on the US Billboard Hot 100.

After signing with Columbia Records, Russ released “There's Really a Wolf” in May 2017. The album debuted at number 7 on the US Billboard 200 and number four on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. On April 18, 2018, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA. Russ released his thirteenth studio album, “Zoo,” on September 7, 2018, which also peaked at number four on the Billboard 200. In November 2019, he published his first book, “It's All in Your Head,” and released his fourteenth studio album, “Shake the Snow Globe,” on January 31, 2020.

On June 30, 2020, Russ announced that he had completed his deal with Columbia Records and would be an independent artist. On November 17, 2020, he released an EP titled “Chomp,” featuring guest appearances from Black Thought, , , and , among others.

Russ's musical style has been influenced by G-Unit, 50 Cent, and . He produces, mixes, masters, engineers, writes, and performs his own . His style combines hip hop and R&B elements, with rapping and singing on the hook.
